Recycle more, waste less
The Council’s vision for a ‘Sustainable Swindon’ includes responsibly dealing with our waste as close to home as possible, encouraging waste reduction, recycling as a priority and only using landfill where it is unavoidable. We have a unique waste-to-fuel facility in Swindon that processes our household rubbish into an alternative renewable fuel for industry and as a result we landfilled less than 5% of waste in 2017/18.
Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet agreed a new ten year Waste Strategy on 05 December 2018 and it will be delivered through annual action plans.
The following pages give an overview of the strategy. You can also look at the pages that were used during our six-week engagement period between 12 September and 19 October 2018. During this period, 3,183 residents completed an online survey and council officers held around 100 in-depth conversations with residents at five public drop-in sessions.
You can download the papers the Cabinet reviewed here along with the full Waste Strategy document and results of the engagement.
